The Busoga East Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Michael Kasadha, confirmed the incident, describing it as domestic-related violence.

“Initial findings suggest that the suspect followed his wife to the kitchen and allegedly stabbed her to death,” ASP Kasadha said.

During the attack, the deceased’s brother, Paul Musobya, attempted to intervene but was also injured.

“The deceased’s brother tried to rescue her but was stabbed on the left cheek by the suspect,” Kasadha added.

Police further revealed that after the attack, the suspect allegedly set his in-laws’ house on fire before attempting to flee. However, he was intercepted and beaten by a mob of angry residents.

A team of detectives led by the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Iganga visited the scene and documented evidence. Statements have been recorded from eyewitnesses to aid ongoing investigations.

The body of the deceased was taken to Iganga Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination, while the suspect is under police guard at the same facility, receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the mob assault.

ASP Kasadha condemned the incident and urged the public to resolve domestic disputes peacefully.

“We implore members of the public to always seek redress where they face challenges in marriage rather than resorting to violence,” he emphasized.

Police say investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will be charged once he is discharged from hospital.
